● Heir to one of Portuguese wine's most iconic families (creators of the legendary Barca-Velha), Mateus Nicolau de Almeida forged his own avant-garde path in the Douro. Based in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, his project focuses on organic and biodynamic farming, seeking the barest and most transparent expression of the terroir. Famous for brilliant essays like the 'Trans Douro Express' line (exploring the Douro's three sub-regions) and the focused 'Eremitas' whites, his winemaking rejects cellar makeup. His wines are vibrant, with electric acidity and profound minerality, offering an authorial, rebellious, and intellectual vision of Douro viticulture.
